Smart Cruise Terminal Buildings & Innovative Reception Facilities

Work package 2

GREEN CRUISE PORT aims to establish sustainable cruise port superstructure, especially terminal buildings and reception facilities. Sustainable cruise port superstructure has to be adapted to the development of the world cruise fleet, which indicates a massive trend to bigger cruise ships. This causes a need for adjustments in terminal buildings as well as in reception facilities, e.g. bilge, sludge and scrubber sludge, grey and black water as well as solid and toxic waste disposal facilities. Several cruise ports in the BSR indicate the need for new buildings or reconstructions of cruise terminals and terminal buildings. Especially the integration of „green“ features like sustainable building shells, energy saving systems, green vegetation on roofs, solar panels, small wind turbines or energy efficient lighting etc. must be taken into consideration. In addition, the terminal/vessel access has to be ensured for elderly and disabled passengers. And growing crew sizes demand for appropriate social attention at ports.
